This Summer We Return To Where Hôtel Magique Began: With Art

Even in a world that values perfection, artists have the unique ability to imagine something that doesn’t yet exist and transform it into something real and beautiful. It’s this unique process and these human skills, along with their embrace of imperfection and trust in their instincts, that give original art its true value.

The Magique of Art

Art is not just about the image, but about being transported to a moment that never existed until the artist made it real. This is why art isn’t merely decoration; it’s a portal.

For me personally, tropical paintings like the ones by Ray Crooke, always take me on a journey. I’m instantly there, wherever there may be. I feel the summer heat, the sound of the ocean, tropical flowers and palms waving. It’s as though I am sitting next to the artist, watching their every move. Every drop and pencil stroke makes me curious; how did they feel about a crooked line or a drop of paint? Was that pencil stroke left on purpose?

That’s the transformative magique of art: it’s a journey. And for every viewer, that journey is unique.

Artists - Magique Makers

Did you know, that humans are the only mammals who can think and dream ahead in time? They imagine a feeling, a scene, a moment that doesn’t yet exist, and turn it into something real and beautiful.

I still remember seeing Andy Warhol’s sketches up close for the first time and feeling a sense of awe. The pencil lines still visible, messy dots of paint, ripped paper taped back together. It was imperfect, and that’s what made it perfect. That’s what made it human.

Why Original Art Matters More Than Ever in the Age of AI

In today’s world, we often focus on the end result, the perfect image, the flawless piece of art. But with original art, what’s truly valuable is the process behind it.

With original art, there is no Control Z to undo previous lines or moves. The artist must trust their instinct, have the courage to create, make mistakes, and embrace imperfections, the true marks of creativity.

This is why, next week, we’re proud to launch a curation of original art. To celebrate the process, the beauty in imperfections, and the artists that make each piece unique and beuatiful. More soon!
