Meet the Artist - Kamila Sipika
Kamila Sipika is a visual artist based in The Netherlands (PL/BR). Nature lies at the heart of Kamila’s artistic inspiration, shaping her exploration of themes such as ephemerality, decay, tranquility, folk traditions, and the enduring symbolism of plants. Her oil painting Iris is part of the Artist Suite Collection, curated by Hôtel Magique and Hotel BonSol as a result of the Call for Artist.

'Iris' by Kamila Sipika
“The starting point was the iris itself—a flower that feels both delicate and enduring. I was drawn to its symbolic weight across cultures and its ability to thrive in bright, open environments, adding a touch of natural beauty wherever it blooms. This piece explores a moment of stillness between two varieties, the Spanish Xiphium and Dutch Casablanca, reflecting a subtle blend of origin, character, and atmosphere.”

Where are you from, and where is home for you today?
I grew up in Poland, where I spent a lot of time in the mountains. Nowadays, I’m based in the Netherlands, and here I continue to build my practice and draw inspiration from the surrounding landscapes and creative communities.
Can you tell us a little bit about yourself?
I studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw and the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague, but my inspiration is shaped by a wide range of worlds. My practice is grounded in painting, often working with raw linen or cotton, using natural pigments and oil paint to create textured, layered surfaces. I am drawn to architecture with strong material presence, organic design, detailed botanical illustrations, and traditional forms of craftsmanship, especially where these intersect with the natural environments. Experiencing different landscapes, cross-cultural traditions, and ways of living broadens my perspective and reminds me how much we can learn from one another and how something far away can feel deeply familiar.
Nature teaches us so much: resilience, stillness, transformation. I try to carry that into my work, which often explores sustainability, slowness, decay, and the role art plays in shaping how we think and interact with our surroundings.

Why did you start creating art?
Art has always been a part of my life—I grew up in a household shaped by architecture and creativity. From an early age, I was surrounded by sketches, materials, and visual thinking, which naturally led me to explore art as a way to make sense of the world.
What inspires you to create art today?
Nature, always. In the way it softens and shapes things. I’m drawn to the unnoticed details in nature—the way shadows shift on a leaf, or how surfaces age with time. I’m equally fascinated by how human hands interpret nature, turning raw materials into lived spaces. That ongoing dialogue keeps me curious. And in how artists, architects and designers borrow from it, turning structures into a sensible story.
Why did you apply for the Call for Artists?
I’m drawn to places where nature, craftsmanship, and human interactions come together. Both Hôtel Magique and Hotel BonSol capture that rare and delicate balance beautifully.
