Meet the Artist - Alex Barros
Meet Alex Barros. Not one, but two works by the Spanish artist, who has been creating since childhood, were selected from over 900 submissions. His oil paintings Bonsol and Imagined Skies No8 are both part of the Artist Suite Collection, curated by Hôtel Magique and Hotel BonSol as a result of the Call for Artists.

'Imagined Skies No8' by Alex Barros
About 'Imagined Skies No8': “How many possible skies are there? And how many impossible ones? This infinite and impossible task has been the starting point for Imagined Skies, based on photographs of different skies.
Light inspires me. It is probably the most important aspect of my painting. Lights and shadows are even more fundamental than the shapes or the subject of the painting. And they help me to transmit that feeling of pleasure, dream, or memory.”

'Bonsol' by Alex Barros
“Creating ‘Bonsol’ was a fun challenge. I decided to paint the landscape from different references but without copying any of them. In practice, the result is a recreation of a space that does not exist, but which inevitably has the essence of the Hotel BonSol."

Tell us a little bit about yourself.
I am a quiet person with a creative mind. Running a cultural business and being an artist are two very different things. But both shape my character. In the beginning, it was difficult to keep the balance, but in the last two years, I feel I have managed to do so.
Where are you from, and where is home for you today?
I am from Madrid, Spain. During a part of my studies and some years after I lived and created abroad, but since 2017 I started a cultural business in my city. Currently, the center of my professional and artistic life is called DUBITA arts&people, a beautiful cultural space in the Prosperidad neighbourhood (Madrid) that I created in 2021 with my partner Bea Achaques.
Why did you start creating art?
It has been a natural path since my childhood. I was always drawing and I have to thank my parents for their support when I had to choose what to study at university. My profile was much more oriented towards engineering, but I chose Fine Arts and I have enjoyed it from the very first moment.
What inspires you to create art today?
For me it's a way of life. I think the analog part of life is essential.
Why did you apply for the Call for Artists?
I instantly felt the connection between the whole atmosphere and my way of understanding painting.
