"This work was inspired by Claudia Montesinos's photographic work, Eunoia - Beautiful Thought. In this work, she experimented with how to achieve pictoriality through photography. Claudia and I met, and the moment she showed me her work, I fell deeply in love. We shared many artistic qualities. That sensitivity to poses, light, and fabrics were characteristics I call for in my own work.”

Tell us a little bit about yourself.

From a general perspective, what unites me with my work is the exploration of different environments. This is the starting point of all creation, whether musical, sculptural, or pictorial. Surrounding myself with different stimuli depending on the work's theme helps me greatly; this can range from smells, to the music that surrounds us, even being in a predetermined location. Everything creates a false illusion that helps me delve even deeper into my perspective, to be artistic.

This is where a dialogue begins between the physical and what can truly be represented, with my own imagination. I use suggestion as a tool, which allows me to recreate the idea more than the object, as I believe that visual art should go beyond aesthetics and the material itself to become something that I cannot yet name.

Regarding the subject matter, I am a human being, so we experience difficulties every day. We are in a constant world of ideas, of every conversation, every radio tune, every book, and a billion other stimuli that ignite a spark in my imagination, as Professor Joaquín Sorolla y Bastida said: “I paint what surrounds me, because there is no truth beyond its own reality.”

Where are you from, and where is home for you today?

I’m from Ayamonte. A small fishing town near the border with Portugal. Now I’m living in Seville, but my studio is still in Ayamonte.

Why did you start creating art?

Since I was a child. I have always been interested in the world of art and as far back as I can remember I started painting and creating small sculptures.

What inspires you to create art today?

Everything that surrounds me, always from a romantic vision.
